FAQ

Counselor God
I heard you had a question about being a counselor at camp this year.
Yes I do! Please Help!
Ask Anything you like!
Thanks, but I have quite a few.
Not a problem, I’ll answer everything I can.
Thanks!!! Do I have to be an Awana Leader at my church?
Yes you do. All Summit Leadership Counselors and Staff must be current Awana Leaders in their local Church.
What if I’m a Awana Leader at another church?
That works too.
How old do I have to be to  become a counselor?
You must be at least 19 years old to serve. However if you are 24 years old or younger, you must have earned your Awana Citation.
What if I’m 90?
lol, Not recommended. There is a lot of running!
Will I have to go through a background check?
Yes, all Counselors must submit to a background check.
Will I have to provide personal information?
Yes, your name, address, dob, SSN, Driver License # are all required.
No problem. How much does it cost to be a Counselor?
Each Counselor must pay $300.00.
Why do we have to pay?
This amount covers the cost of food and lodging. We strive to keep the camp cheap for the youth. If we had the youth cover the cost of Counselors, camp would be too expensive.
What is expected of me?
Your duties include the following: Sleeping in the cabin with the youth, participating in team events, sitting with campers during meal periods, and guiding your cabin in nightly devotions.
That’s it?
There’s more, but that’s the main points.
Do I have to participate in the games?
No, but we encourage you to interact with the youth as much as possible.
What if I want to play the games?
We need you healthy not hurt.
True… Can I be a staff member and not a counselor?
Staff or “White Team” is normally chosen a year before camp. There is a lot of work the staff must do before camp is even close to starting.
I would still like to be considered..
Please speak to the camp director, at Camp.
Is there a training I must go through?
All Counselors must go to the training day on June 2nd.
What if I can not attend?
Everyone must attend. If a counselor does not know what is happening at camp, they can not lead 10-12 youth. Blind leading the blind.
What if I have more questions?
You can email info@SummitEvents.org.
Thank you.
No problem! Your first year is always the scariest, but you will soon find that being a camp counselor is one of the most rewarding things you can do.
